Outdoor Art: Part 1

Once you’ve installed the perfect paver patio, screened-in your lanai, had the backyard professionally landscaped with native Florida plants and chose the ideal flattop grill to entertain guests, there are still a few things to think about – accessories! Northeast Florida has a great selection of mosaic artists, sculptors and masons to add unique touches to your outdoor space. Here are just a few of them:

Debi James: is a mosaic artist based in St. Augustine. Mosaics come in a variety of materials like pastel beach glass, bright-colored marbles, iridescent tiles, natural pebbles and a rainbow of recycled glass. Check out James’ outdoor mosaic work (including an entry arch, birdbath, swimming pool murals and house numbers) at creativemosaics.info or her work at top and to the right.

Thomas Glover W.: is a St. Augustine-based sculptor who works in an array of outdoor-friendly materials like Alabama Marble, Steatite, Pipe Stone, and Red Sandstone. Many of his sculptures explore the female form. Check out his large and small-scale sensual works of art at thomas-glover-w.com. Or visit one of the many places his work is on public display like the St. Augustine Beach City Hall or the St. Augustine Sculpture Garden.

Joe Segal: if wood is more your speed, visit Segal’s one-of-a-kind wood, aluminum and steel pieces online at joesegal.com. This Lincolnville-based sculptor’s work can be seen at public venues around Northeast Florida including Baptist Hospital, the San Marco Library and Balis Community Center and The Museum of Contemporary Art.

Marianne Lerbs: works in a slew of mediums. From cold cast resin with faux finish to limestone to iron work with stain glass, much of Lerbs’ work is created with the outdoors in mind. Check out the St. Augustine-based sculptress’ art at lerbs.com or publicly at The St. Augustine Sculpture Garden or Atlantic Elementary in Atlantic Beach.
